First Friday and First Saturday devotions are reparatory devotions in the Catholic Church that arose from separate private revelations. The First Friday devotion is associated with the Sacred Heart of Jesus, while the First Saturday devotion is associated with the Immaculate Heart of Mary.
First Saturday: The practice of the First Saturday devotion was requested by Our Lady of Fatima who appeared to three shepherd children in Fatima, Portugal, multiple times starting in 1917.
CONDITIONS TO FULFILL THE FIRST SATURDAY DEVOTION:
On five consecutive first Saturdays of the month, one should:
1. Have the intention of consoling the Immaculate Heart in a spirit of reparation.
2. Go to confession (within eight days before or after the first Saturday).
3. Receive Holy Communion.
4. Say five decades of the Holy Rosary
5. Meditate for 15 minutes on the mysteries of the Holy Rosary with the goal of keeping Our Lady company (for example, while in church or before an image or statue of Our Lady).
At St. Ferdinand, there is an 8:30 am Mass each first Saturday of the month. At 7:45 am there are prayers and five Decades of the Rosary recited before Mass. After Mass there is a 15 minute meditation on the Mysteries. Confession is available after Mass. Prayer pamphlets are available to assist in following the format. All are invited and most welcome to attend.
At St. Gregory, prayers and the rosary are said prior to the 5pm mass beginning at 4:20pm. All are invited on First Saturdays to attend.
